The goal of the conference is to advance understanding of the global innovation system that is emerging to address sustainable development goals: improving intergenerational well-being of the world’s people, while conserving the earth’s life support systems.
Sustainable development has been articulated as a shared global objective, and the problems that must be addressed to realize sustainable development are increasingly cross-border in nature. Key examples include global climate change, the transfer of pathogens, toxic substances, unhealthy lifestyles across borders, and volatility in global food commodity markets. Achieving the goals of sustainable development will of course require political leadership, but also needed is a significant and sustained increase in relevant technological innovation.
