Two Undergraduate Associates Chosen for Phi Beta Kappa 2019

Two Undergraduate Associates, Arthur Lopes and Sierra Nota, are elected to Harvard College’s chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, a national academic honor society. Studying in the Department of the Classics, Lopes’s thesis is titled “A Tropical Homer: Reinterpreting Gilberto Freyre’s Casa-Grande & Senzala, 1902–1940.” Studying in the Department of History and the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures, Nota’s thesis is titled “Make Way for the Railway: City Development and the Trans-Siberian Railroad.” Lopes and Nota join forty-six other Harvard seniors in the “Senior 48” who have chosen the most challenging courses and achieved academic success, along with the pursuit of independent research in an honors concentration.
