Serhii Plokhii Wins Prestigious Shevchenko National Prize

Faculty Associate Serhii Plokhii is the Mykhailo Hrushevsky Professor of Ukrainian History and director of the Ukrainian Research Institute at Harvard University. He is one of five winners of the 2018 Shevchenko National Prize for his 2015 book, The Gates of Europe: A History of Ukraine. The prize is named after poet and artist Taras Shevchenko and is Ukraine’s highest state award—and thus one of the most prestigious distinctions a work of writing or art can receive in Ukraine.
