Inclement Weather Notice

The University, FAS, and the Weatherhead Center are open for normal operations today, Monday, March 4. Please check our website and those of individual schools and units for specific schedule alterations. Travel to campus will be difficult this morning and may delay arrival for many. Those who need to significantly alter their schedules due to unsafe travel conditions in their local areas or due to other personal circumstances (such as childcare needs) should be in contact with their supervisors. Our community of scholars researches complex international, transnational, global, and comparative topics at the frontier of the social sciences. We aim to focus on the most important questions facing societies across the globe. This is why with this new academic year, we are launching three new Weatherhead Research Clusters focused on international security, the reconfiguration of regions in a multipolar world, and religion in public life in Africa and the African diaspora. These complement our existing clusters on global populism/challenges to democracy, global transformations, and comparative inequality and inclusion. Update on Professor Jorge Domínguez to WCFIA Community

Dear colleagues,

For the last week, the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs community has faced several formidable challenges following the Chronicle of Higher Education’s distressing accounts of sexual harassment by Professor Jorge I. Domínguez, former Center Director and Vice Provost for International Affairs, and until recently Chair of the Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies, one of the programs affiliated with the Center. 2017–2018 Welcome Message from Director Michèle Lamont

Image of Michele LamontWelcome to the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University. Our community of scholars is committed to studying complex international, transnational, global, and comparative topics and to producing first-rate research. Our affiliates include 235 Harvard Faculty Associates, and over 150 graduate and undergraduate students, visiting scholars, fellows, and postdoctoral researchers. Our community draws members from nine of Harvard’s thirteen schools, making us a strong interdisciplinary presence on campus.

Weatherhead Center scholars seek to dive deep into understanding a broad range of challenges facing the world. This academic year, we are launching Weatherhead Research Clusters focused on global populism, the history of global transformations, and comparative inequality and inclusion. Over the next three years, faculty, students, and visiting scholars will collaborate on research and publications. WCFIA Responds to the Executive Order to Ban Refugees and Immigrants from Seven Majority Muslim Countries

As director and executive director of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, we want to express solidarity with all the members of our community and other human beings who will be affected by this ill-considered executive order. This decision inflames existing tensions and represents an inexcusable attack against Muslims. It also violates our sense of communal living as well as fundamental human rights principles and obligations to protect refugees.
